Who doesn’t want Home Office Space Optimization?!
If you’re anything like me, nothing drives me crazier than wasting unnecessary time in my home office, when I could be outside doing something active. I want the time spent in my office to be the most productive I can possibly be. Wouldn’t you like to cut your workday in half just because your productivity level is optimized? Let’s make your office space on point to bring out the productivity warrior within you!
Let’s begin with a quick list of important questions to ask yourself. This will ensure that you choose the right space for your office.
- What size space will you need?
- Is storage space needed?
- Will clients be visiting your space?
- Do you plan to have a colleague visiting your space to collaborate?
- Is your chosen space free of noise and distraction?
- What type of equipment will you need?
- Is there efficient wiring for equipment?
- Is the cellular and Internet strength sufficient?
- What is the quality of natural or artificial light?
- How does the space make you feel? Sleepy? Energized? Focused? Distracted?
For me, choosing a space that makes me feel good is crucial! One may think windows are a distraction, but natural lighting helps with energy level and alertness. True Story! A new study by HR advisory firm Future Workplace called “The Employee Experience”
showed that the #1 office perk is natural light. Studies reveal that natural light isn’t the only important aspect of workplace wellness, of course. For example, one frequently cited Harvard study showed that improving air quality caused mental cognition to soar. That’s right, you can add plants to help with mood and increase quality oxygen levels. What an easy addition, right?!
Once you have set the parameters for your space, the next step is setting up the space. It is important that things are set up in a manner to maximize functionality, while eliminating hang-ups that will interrupt your productivity.
Want to optimize productivity? Here are 5 home office optimization tips that are proven to help.
- Having a second monitor. Multitasking is a breeze with two monitors! By having multiple programs open across two screens, you can seamlessly move between the two, maximizing your efficiency.
- An efficient printer and scanner is a staple. Many transactions are paperless these days, but it is always a good idea to have a printer and scanner at your disposal. This eliminates having to go elsewhere to get these things accomplished.
- High Speed Internet service! THIS IS A MUST!!! Speed and efficiency is important. You want to eliminate wait time for things to download and upload.
- The right chair. Never underestimate the power of a good chair! Good support and comfort helps eliminate problems down the road, such as back pain, neck pain, and poor posture.
A couple killer tips: You can use a stability ball. It helps engage core muscles while keeping you aware of your posture. I personally use a stand up desk in the form of a treadmill desk so I can stay active when I choose. It keeps the blood flowing and my productivity level at a prime. These come in a wide variety of prices and options. - Clean Space = Clear Mind. Having less clutter cuts down on time looking for things. Your time being productive is optimized when you have a system with important things that are used regularly in one place. Labeling things accordingly is another huge time saver! Having a clean and tidy office will make you mind clearer, so you can concentrate on getting all of your daily tasks done. Once again, making your space more functional and optimizing productivity level. YES PLEASE!!!
Not feelin’ it still?
If this is you, another option is a shared work space, such as We Work or Regus. These spaces are growing in popularity and provide many benefits for people who thrive off of human interaction. If you are someone who is inspired by others, enjoy brainstorming with like-minded people, work well in a communal work space, and like access to conference rooms and weekly events, this may be your ticket to maximizing your productivity.
