Association between active people and productivity
Being active is oftentimes associated with weight loss or staying in shape, but there are many more benefits. Not only does exercise help improve your physical well being, it also can improve work productivity. Research has found that exercise has tremendous mental benefits, including productivity, memory, and mood.
1. Concentration – Being active will not only increase concentration while working, but also in your every day activities. The more concentrated you are, the more productive you’ll be.
2. Alertness – Exercise can increase blood flow to the brain and increase oxygen levels, in turn making you more alert and feeling awake to work efficiently and to the best of your ability.
3. Elevation In Mood – One of the most positive things that happens when people exercise is an elevation in mood. Being in a good mood will improve your productivity, motivation, and communication with others.
“Being productive and alert at work can help you get your job done faster and even make you more eligible for a promotion.” Livestrong
4. Increase In Being Motivated – Exercise increases oxygen and nutrients to your tissues, which helps your cardiovascular system. As a result, this boosts energy levels, making you more motivated. It’s a double bonus here!
5. Better Enables You To Deal With Stressful Situations- Dealing with stressful situations in a calmer and more composed manner will not only make for a better day for everyone, but will also help with productivity.
Productivity and brain function
According to Harvard Medical School, exercise stimulates regions of the brain that are involved in memory function to release a chemical called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). In other words, BDNF rewires memory circuits so they work better. This is something that only the brain can make with regular exercise, so one or two days a week won’t cut it. Ideally, you’d get 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, five days a week.
5 quick and easy ideas to get that 30 minutes in and increase your productivity!
1. Ride your bike to work.
2. Walk to work.
3. Walk or do something active during your lunch hour.
4. Join the office building gym, if you have one, or find a gym convenient to your route to and from work.
5. Find a workout partner from work to hold you accountable.
CONCLUSION: Active Lifestyle = Productivity… simple as that!
