Skin changes as we age, and so do our skincare needs. It’s not optimal for adults to use the same products as teens, especially when addressing acne breakouts.
This is something that I can personally relate to! As a teenager, I never dealt with acne, but as I became an adult, I have battled with it nonstop. I had tried over the counter products, suggested products from others struggling, prescription topical and oral products from my dermatologist… I can keep going if you’d like. Nothing got it under control long term, until I tried the unblemish regimen.
Having acne as a teenager or an adult can be equally as debilitating, causing discomfort and embarrassment no matter the age. It is time that we treat acne specific to the needs of teenagers or adults!
What’s the difference in acne breakouts as a teenager or an adult you ask?
Teenage Acne – Teens and young adults have more hormones called androgens, than adults. Androgens increase during puberty, and they also play a role in making the skin’s oil glands larger, producing more oil. Needless to say, they’re more likely to have severe acne, and it most commonly pops up around the forehead and nose, also referred to as the t-zone, or all over the face. On a positive note, younger skin is more resilient and has faster cell turnover. At this age, collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are all at their peaks.
Fortunately, my go-to skincare for my adult acne JUST launched a new treatment for teens that targets the issues that cause acne during those tough teenage years. I am so glad that we can help all ages!!!
The acne breakouts struggle is real!
Adult Acne – 40% of adults suffer from some sort of acne. You heard me right… 40%! Adults get acne breakouts from cyclical hormones, especially in women. It appears more commonly around the jawline, mouth and chin area, also known as the u-zone. Unfortunately, skin cells turn over more slowly as we age, leading to clogged pores.
Aside from acne breakouts, adults suffer from other skin concerns.
As time goes on, it starts to wreak havoc on skin. Take my word for it! As we age, the deepening of the lines between the nose and mouth, and expression lines around the eyes become more and more apparent. Adults produce less collagen and elastin, giving the appearance of sagging. As we age, skin becomes drier as well, since we produce less oil as adults and the skin barrier gets compromised over time. All of these things lead to the skin being less resilient and more sensitive. The sun’s UVA rays trigger our natural defenses and we begin to produce melanin, eventually resulting in brown spots and uneven skin tone.
Since 40% of adults have some form of acne, they have to pay attention to both acne and their other concerns, like fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness and elasticity, and discoloration. Fortunately, with the right skincare regimen, we can address all of these things at the same time.
You CAN feel good in your skin!
