Ever Worked Out With Make-Up On?
How many of us women have finished our work day and headed straight to the gym for a workout, or hit the trails for a run, without even thinking about washing our face before getting a good sweat session in? Ummmmm… GUILTY!
Excess sweat during a workout will clog your pores and lead to acne, skin discoloration, and irregularities.
From Best Case Scenario To Worst While Working Out
Best Case – Remove ALL make-up before working out. In addition to that, make sure to wash your face post workout to get rid of any impurities that have come to the surface or bacteria from mats and equipment.
2nd Best Case – Cleansing wipes are an option if you aren’t able to fully wash your face. They are convenient and you can have them stashed in your gym bag for that day that you are in a hurry.
Not Ideal – If you must wear make-up while working out, keep your movements light so that you are limiting the amount that you are sweating. Also, make sure to wash you face immediately after.
No choice or time and must workout with make-up?
If you have no choice or time to remove and reapply makeup when squeezing in a quick lunch workout, use makeup labeled as “non-comedogenic” (won’t clog pores) and stick to lighter powders as opposed to heavy oil-based liquid makeups.
One of the best descriptions is from Whitney Bowe, M.D., who tells InStyle magazine, “When you work out, your pores and sweat glands open up in order to cool down your body — wearing a full face of makeup can block your pores and glands, hindering your skin’s ability to breathe, which in turn can result in breakouts, blackheads and skin irritation.”
