Planning your day the night before matters just as much as what you do each morning.
It is found that planning your day the evening before increases the probability that you’ll accomplish what you’re aiming to get done on any given day. This day and age, technology has allowed us to be able to plan in no time at all, so there are really no excuses!
5 Things that will help you plan your day the night before
1. Write a list of things that you need to get done the next day. You can even talk and text it into your phone notes app. Just say the words, and voila… there’s your list! Easy peasy!
2. Planning can be done anywhere! You can be at your kids’ baseball game and jot a list down, waiting on dinner to cook, or even be taking a hot bath and get your day organized with a simple list. Guilty! I’ve been THAT girl.
3. Time Blocking. This is very helpful to stay on task. You just block out a certain amount of time, i.e. 15 minutes per task, and once your time allotment is over, you move onto your next task. This is something that you can definitely implement for your daily activities.
4. Have a morning routine. When planning your day the night before, it is important to take your morning routine into consideration. A staple morning routine will save you time. The first hour of your day is critical; It sets the tone for what the rest of your day will be like. I have fine tuned my Miracle Morning routine to one that best fits me ignites my fire.
5. List 5 things that you WILL get done the next day. Prioritize these 5 things by level of importance. If you have a project that will require multiple days to complete, break it down into sections and commit to one part of the project that you will complete the next day.
Planning your day the night before doesn’t need to be a perfect plan. Oftentimes people avoid planning because they are worried that they cannot stick to the plan. The truth is, all plans have some wiggle room. You don’t need a “perfect plan”, you just need a “good plan” to get you started. Once you get a system down, you can fine tune it in the drop of a hat.
Don’t have time to plan your day the night before?
We all have time to plan. You have to think of this time planning as a quick exercise that will actually save you hours the following day and days forward. If you implement this into your nightly routine, you will be amazed at how much more efficient you are. Just remember, planning your day is a time SAVER, not a time TAKER.
